On Thursday 30th September, St Martin’s College Sixth Form organized an icebreaking activity to welcome the new first years. To say they were thrown in at the deep end is by no means an exaggeration as on arriving at Mistra Bay, the students were challenged to build, in teams, usable rafts which they would then have to row into the sea.
With guidance from Scouts, students along with some adventurous teachers were up to their elbows in ‘Mickey-Mouse knots’ and Robinson Crusoe-style wooden logs. Amazingly, all rafts made it into the water (even if temporarily) and so did a number of the students! This was followed by a well-deserved Pizza at Margos.
Overall, it was a very successful day and everyone got involved. Let’s just hope that this partnership of hard work continues throughout the coming year.
